Why do I need to keep $5 in my Regular Savings?
The first $5 you deposit in a Regular Savings Account at Hawthorne is what we call your "membership share". Because we're a not for profit financial cooperative, you join the credit union with your first $5 share, which makes you an official member of the credit union. You need to keep at least $5 in your Regular Savings Account to maintain your membership with the credit union.
All member deposits are federally insured to $250,000 by the National Credit Union Association. The NCUA has a Deposit Insurance Estimator available. This insurance estimator will help in determining the federal deposit insurance on your account.
